Every picture is made past something.

Two pedestrians walk toward the statue of Marianne on the Place de la République

Restricted View is a photographic study of obstruction. A window, a fog, a railing, a stranger’s back, a blur, a scarf, the dark: each stands between the camera and the city, and each is kept in the frame. In theatres this is a seat with a restricted view. Here it is the point of view.

The pictures were made in Paris on 23 January 2026 and in Amsterdam on 28 and 29 January 2026, on a Fujifilm X100F. Every photograph was supplied in black and white. None has been converted, toned or filtered for this site. They are grouped in seven series, each named after what is in the way.
